Hey

Soooooo, only a short one this week. I am stressed up to my eyeballs! Only one week left at University and then I will have officially finished my first year! Of course, in that week remaining I have exams. I have already had two, and have another three left, but then three months of freedom! Also, I’ve seen Avengers and oh my Lordy! It’s … there are no words to fully describe how I feel about this film! If you have yet to see it, I recommend it enthusiastically! But yes, life is boring right now, and there’s nothing really of interest I have to say. I just thought I’d give a quick post now. Kirstie

Kirstie with a late Wednesday post

Okay, so technically it’s passed midnight here in good ol’ England.

Buuuuut, I haven’t posted in aaaaaages! So, I figured I shall just post anyways.

So, hey there guys and gals!

I’ve had a busy past few weeks, and the next few weeks aren’t looking any better as I am quickly approaching my end of year exams.

Now, though my exams in my first year don’t count towards my degree at the end of my time at Uni, if I fail … well I might not even get to my second year to start work towards my degree, so there’s more pressure than you would think.

Even still, I am completely lacking in motivation to get my butt in gear and revise properly. I’ve never been very good at revising. I lack the patience, and quite frankly the concentration, to actually sit down and do it. Which is a real pain at times like these, when I have to do it.

It doesn’t help that most of my notes are online, because that leads to the age old “Oh, I’ll just take a ten minute break and check my emails” then three hours later I realise I’ve spent the last three hours watching youtube videos, or dueling on pottermore, or playing facebook games!

Geez I’m useless. It’s a miracle I even made it to University! Haha.

So yeah, short post is short, but I have exams on the brain at the moment >.<

Ridiculous

I’m sure you’ve all heard of Ridiculously Photogenic Guy by now, right? I wanted to post about this last week but since I had just recently watched The Hunger Games, well, priorities!

I’m not completely informed about the story of how it all came to be, but Zeddie Little is aware of all the happenings, yes? I’m just wondering, what would you all think if a random photo of you floating around became the newest meme? Would you give someone permission to make you a meme if they asked? What if it was a good meme and made you something along the lines of Ridiculously Photogenic?

Or what if they turned you into the next Annoying Facebook Girl?

Who is said girl anyway?

From Ena, who would like to stay (for the most part) anonymous around the nets.

I watched The Hunger Games too, on Monday. It was really well done, I’d watch it again :)

Wednesday

Hey guys and gurls!

Sorry for a lack of proper posting the last few weeks. I had some assessments to get finished and some costumes to get made for going away tomorrow.

So, as I said the other week, I went to see the Hunger Games. It was very well done. A few little things to complain about, but a very very good book to film adaption over all. My opinions are very similar to Tilly’s also.

If anyone is still yet to see this film, or are putting it off for whatever reason, I advise seeing it.

Also, Season two of Game of Thrones has started! And I am enjoying this one as much as the last. I love this series so much. The scenery is beautiful, the acting is brilliant, and George R.R. Martin’s story is genius. Began reading the book a few weeks ago, though not had the chance to read very much of it. But, with a three hour coach ride tomorrow, I might get through a little more :)

So, that’s all for this week.

Tom Returns

Hey fellow nerdfighters. Its been a while. Happy Easter/Passover if religion is your thing. The past few weeks have been a mixture of busy, stress, celebration and letdown.

Last weekend my rugby team won our game, making us 2-0. This may not seem like a big deal to most people, but our team lost every game in the fall and our division III club is only 2 years old. Both teams that we won against so far have been division II teams. I can’t wait for the regular season in the fall so that we can see what we can do against other D-III teams. All of you American nerdfighters need to watch or play a game of rugby. It is well worth it.

The day before my rugby game, I found out that I was blackballed by the fraternity I was trying to join. It hurts; especially because the reason for the opposition was something that appeared out of thin air at the last vote. It was never brought to my attention until then. That was the slap in the face, not being turned down. I am strangely fine with returning to life as a GDI.

Today to celebrate Easter I went to the local Quaker Meeting. They practice traditional worship where you sit in a circle in silence until the “spirit moved” someone. It was an interesting cultural experience. There is nothing like one. It is every relaxing.

Enjoy your Sunday,

—Tom

Did you know our university has a Quidditch Society? We have a Quidditch Society. I’m in the Quidditch Society. I’m usually a beater during training. I’m in dire need of exercise. This is the perfect exercise. Right?

Excuse the thumb in the corner~

And sometimes there’s butterbeer during tournaments too. It tastes like liquid toffee lollies!

Guys, uni is finally going uphill!! I know the workload only gets crazier from here, but I think I’ve finally settled in and I’m ready to catch up on everything I need to revise. (It’s actually quite a lot. Ahh.) Thankfully, it’s finally mid semester break! Yes! A week off to study loads, and relax a little as well. Or possibly the other way around. Yeah, probably.

I want to see The Hunger Games too! A lot of friends have seen it and many have said good things about it. Hopefully I’ll get to watch it this week!

I’M SO HAPPY BECAUSE IT’S MID SEMESTER BREAK!

See you next week guys :)

Ena.

Who forgot to post again? Yes, me.. So I don’t really have an excuse this time. I’m sorry for not posting.

I went to the Hunger Games today :) I liked it. There were some things that I didn’t like, but overall it was a good movie. (I posted a review on my blog)

I agree with you Tilly. I think it was a great adaption. I think the film is better when you have read the books.

So.. what do I have to say. Not a lot. I said I would talk about photographs and stuff again this week, but I’m not very inspired today. I will try to post about something photography related next week.

The Hunger Games

So I went to see The Hunger Games on Thursday evening, the first night that it was out in Exeter and being a huge fan of the books, I was super excited… It did not disappoint! For any of you who either haven’t read the books or want to go into the films with a completely free mind, don’t read on, but if I won’t put too many spoilers in here just in case!

Firstly and most importantly, I thought the casting was amazing. Esepcially Peeta and Haymitch, who were the two characters that I thought were going to be the most difficult to match up to the books representation. I also absolutely loved the pacing of the film (it’s a long film but I definitely left wanting even more) because I felt they spent just the right amount of time in each period of the book (in District 12, in the Capitol, in the Games, after the Games). In fact, the whole portrayal of the Capitol and its citizens was, for me, one of the best parts of the film. The makeup and costumes for the Capitol residents was absolutely stunning in a grotesque kind of way, and my imagination was never really good enough at capturing that. On screen though, they got the balance right between making these people shallow and uncaring at what the Hunger Games represented, without making them seem like villains.

Another thing that I really liked was the new scenes that weren’t in the book showing the Gamemakers during the course of the Games. It was sort of necessary for the film to make sense for people who haven’t read the books (although I’m still not sure how easy it would have been to follow) and I thought it really worked. The final thing that I thought they did really well was the whole Tracker Jacker scene. Showing Katniss’ hallucinations was done so convincingly that it almost left me feeling queasy!

OK, so onto things I didn’t like as much… The film here in the UK was a 12A, and I thought they should have upped to gore and made it a 15. I can see why they didn’t: it was a book for ‘young adults’ after all, but it wasn’t scary enough for me, and didn’t depict the true horror of what the Games was making people do. Also, I didn’t like how the Careers were shown, because they appeared to be one big happy gang who actually enjoyed killing the people. In my mind (and in the book) they are distrustful and band together for convenience while always watching to see if they will be betrayed. In the film, their glee when they find Katniss and then happiness to all go to sleep without leaving a guard wasn’t true with the books. The final thing which I wasn’t so happy with, was when Katniss first hears the announcement which means both she and Peeta can win. In the books she completely forgets where she is and how dangerous a situation she is in in her keenness to be with Peeta again. She yells “Peeta!” without caring about who else hears. In the film, they have her merely whisper “Peeta”, which I felt was much less powerful.

Overall, I thought the film was really good both as a representation of the book and in its own right as being cinematically beautiful. If any of you guys have seen the film I would love to hear your thoughts on what worked and what didn’t. Hope you have a lovely week,

Best wishes,

Tilly
